Located in Santeramo in Colle, the Grotta di Sant’Angelo is a place where history, spirituality and nature come together in a unique experience. Dedicated since antiquity to the micaelic cult of the Archangel Michael, the cave has always been a crossroads of pilgrims, cultures and emotions.

From June, we invite you to discover this hidden treasure, capable of enchanting visitors of all ages. Here, every nook and cranny tells a story and every visit becomes an emotional journey that unites the past with the present. The project

End of work and assignment

After the completion of the last works to restore the rooms above the Grotto, the Santeramo in Colle municipality proceeded to set up a public tender for the allocation and management of the structure, which was then won by the ‘Don Ignazio Fraccalvieri’ Archaeoclub association of Santeramo in Colle.

Study phase, site design
and design of activities

After the project was assigned by the Municipality of Santeramo in Colle, the most intense phase began, which included a preliminary study of the rooms set up to optimise the museum’s premises, and also involved various realities that began to plan all the activities that will make up the ‘Grotta di Sant’Angelo’ project.

Event Calendar Creation

Through a network consisting of various associations and organisations, the project aims to create a calendar of events continuously studded with appointments that bring a worthy cultural offer to tourists and citizens alike.

Opening to the public

Following the inauguration of the visitor centre on Saturday 7 June 2025, the project continues to enhance the cave and the spaces created in the three stone “lamioni” above it, making them accessible to the public.

Nature

A place nestled in the Santermana murgia, which rises between ancient sheep-tracks and modern nature trails, serving as a crossroads for discovering an area of great naturalistic potential.

History​

It has always been a fundamental junction for travellers moving through the Murgia area between Santeramo, Cassano and Acquaviva. There are many traces that testify to its life over the centuries.

Culture

A place that wants to become a central hub for the development of the historical culture of the places, of the cultural identity of this area of Murgia, through the development of a small museum centre that will be housed in the lamioni above the Grotta.
